Welcome to the Healthy Den! I am Suzy, and am passionate about creating a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. I hope that you get something out of this space, something useful to take with you or even a small piece of encouragement to go out and make today great by being fitter, healthier and happier inside and out.
I am not a fitness expert but I am a mum who knows that if I set a good example by healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle I can be the best role model for my children that I can be.
Feeling good inside and out is something that doesn’t come easily to any of us. 15 years ago, I was in my 20’s and busy working and living my life. I didn’t exercise and I didn’t think about what I was putting in my body. I wasn’t happy with how I felt and my clothes were definitely not fitting me like they used to. I was also working a lot and not taking time out for myself. I needed to make sure I was looking after my body and my mind.
I decided to make a change.
I wanted to feel good and energised and I wanted to feel stronger and fitter than I did. I wanted to feel positive and stronger mentally. Over the last 15 years, I have tried different things in order to build my strength and my fitness and have educated myself on what refuels my body and how it makes me feel. When I started doing this the endorphin rushes were amazing!
A Healthy Lifestyle is about constantly learning and growing.
15 years later I am here now with 2 children, a husband, a French Bulldog and we live on a rural property just out of Sydney. Exercise and healthy food is now an easy part of our life. We make it part of the children’s life. We also make sure we take time out each weekend as a family to focus on each other, ourselves and also focus on nature and our surroundings.
I have also had some times of my life where I have suffered anxiety and I have tried to build on small steps to help me through this and how I can create a positive mindset for myself and for my family.
Do you want to know something funny?
I am exactly the same weight now as when I was 15 years ago and wasn’t happy! How does that work you say? Well, the numbers on the scales can mess with your mind! I am way fitter and healthier than I was back then! It is all about educating yourself and trying to do a little better, even if it is something small each day.
I believe in encouraging everyone to try and be the best version of themselves they can be and appreciating at least 5 minutes a day what we have. Life gets away from us too quickly!
